The area of Rethmynon offers idyllic beaches and secluded coves, with crystalline waters. The most popular and one of the most beautiful beaches being Preveli, which looks like a lagoon with its emerald waters, palm trees and warm sand. The beaches of Rethymnon are famous in Crete for their unspoiled beauty and mirror-like emerald waters.
Beach of Heraklion
Various beautiful beaches can be found around the area of Heraklion such as the wonderful sandy beach of Matala with its turquoise waters and many other fine beaches. Many of the superb beaches offer sun beds and umbrellas rentals as well as various water sports while others are totally unspoiled.
Chania beach
Chania has many beauties among which are its numerous beaches. From warm sand to colourful pebbles, Chania has a type of beach for everyone. Small and secluded coves can be found everywhere as well as long, busy and fully equipped beaches. All beaches have crystalline waters and look like paradise.
Elounda Beach
Elounda is made up of several beaches, most of which are annually awarded the "Blue Flag'. An assortment of sandy and pebble beaches on offer, with Wonderful crystal clear waters, ideal for swimming and water sports.
The beach of Vai is crescent shaped with soft brown sand and it quite famous for the natural palm trees all around. The movie 'The Bounty Hunters' was filmed there, making it one of the most photographed of all the beaches on Crete.
Matala Beach
Matala is Known for its wonderful sandy beach and caves carved into the rocks. The busy village is now a popular and very appealing setting. Matala is good for swimming, and has numerous waterside cafes, gift-shops and tavernas. It is a very neat, tidy and well looked after resort.
Bali beach
Bali beach is set along a curving and hilly peninsular with dramatic mountains rising in the background. Bali is sort of a quiet cluster of small villages, beaches and high rising rocks. The village is situated at the head of a little bay and is set around three small coves. The first has a very small pebble beach with several tavernas, the original village is in the second cove where you will find most of the shops and taverna's, and a harbour with some boats and the third cove, known as Paradise Beach, is the best for swimming.
Falsana Beach
Falasarna Beach is quite an unusual beach with a combination shale-like platforms and stretches of smooth, gentle sand. It is a spacious beach are with a few beach front cafes and tavernas.
Many of the beaches around Crete all have crystalline waters and many of them look like paradise. Many more can be found while exploring and are at least as just as wonderful as the ones mentioned.
Reached by track on foot is Kolokithas beach with its blue-green waters.
Karavostasi Beach of Kalo Chorio is at the entrance to the village and is surrounded by locust and olive trees. Perfect place for a cool swim and fun in the sand.
The beautiful enchanting beach of Agios Panteleimonas is also at kalo Chorio with a wide selection of water-based activities.
Ierapetra has the longest beach in Crete with a choice of wonderful golden sand and deep crystal blue waters.
The beaches of Sitia are said to be the greatest gifts that nature has given to the island of Crete. A wonderful shoreline and water sports in clear blue waters.
